From an early age Steph Lowe learnt how to bake from her Mother and after leaving school she enrolled on the Chef Scholarship course at Bournemouth & Poole University. But this was cut short due to Steph’s growing intolerance to dairy products. Then gradually over time she also grew intolerant to wheat & gluten, which meant she had to rethink all her recipes and career.
At the age of 22 she started the New Forest Biscotti Company, selling at markets and wholesale. They were so good they won her a Great Taste Award. After just three years she sold the company to travel the world for three amazing years.
Once back in the UK, she soon discovered there was very little dairy and gluten free products available. She could see a huge gap in the market, especially for high quality free from cakes. So in late 2015 Steph started Gingernut Goodies. Her first outing was at Lymington market in April 2016, she had borrowed a gazebo, her Fathers pasting table and started selling her 100% gluten and dairy free cakes.
To ensure that her baking area is 100% gluten, wheat, dairy and soya free, she has a purpose built kitchen at the bottom of her garden and all her produce is prepared in this 5 star rated kitchen.
She bakes free from cakes and savouries, vegan and refined sugar free choices and special occasion cakes are also available. She still sells at Lymington Market and is growing her wholesale business.
This year Steph is busy writing a free from recipe book, this is to help raise money for the Motor Neuron Disease, which is close to her heart. So please keep an eye out for this later in the year.
Expect to see and hear more from Gingernut Goodies as her cakes gradually become available across Dorset. If you can’t wait until then, you can always order online and we highly recommend her Afternoon Tea selection, which are divine…
