At The Story Pig in Sandford Orcas, James and Charlotte are passionate about their herd of Tamworth Pigs. They are a traditional farm, located in the beautiful rolling hills of Dorset just outside the historic market town of Sherborne, where their pigs live their whole lives outside in the fields, roaming freely, wallowing and rooting in the undergrowth whenever they want.
Tamworth Pigs are the oldest pure breed native pig in the British Isles and are closely related to the wild woodland pigs that once wondered the UK’s rural areas. Tamworths are most at home living outside all year around and we raise them on a large area of pasture where they can root around to their heart’s desire. Like most native breads, these pigs grow slowly and mature naturally so their meat is succulent and bursting with flavour, just as nature intended.
James and Charlotte believe in raising their pigs to the highest ethical and animal welfare standards, using very limited amounts of antibiotics and only when absolutely necessary. They believe that the happiest pigs produce the tastiest meat and as such, are confident that they can produce meat that their customers will love and believe in taking a long term sustainable approach in all that they do.
