The Gallery Café

The Gallery Café
The Gallery Café at Sculpture by the Lakes is the perfect spot to refresh yourself during a wander around the park’s tranquil acres. Cosy, relaxed, and with a glorious view out over the gardens, the Gallery Café offers perhaps the freshest and most environmentally friendly menu in all of Dorset.
From field to plate
Our menu is seasonal, as all the freshest menus are. The vast majority of the food served at the Gallery Café is grown just a short walk away, in our very own kitchen garden (including the eggs!). Diners can glance up from their meal and see the beds from which their meal was harvested earlier.
The rich soil of Dorset provides a wealth of plump, tasty herbs, fruits, and vegetables all year round. Our menu changes according to what’s growing, but the superb quality never alters. Head chef Rachel Winterflood is an expert in getting the very best flavours and textures out of our fresh, home-grown produce.
We do our best to source everything locally. As well as fruit, herbs, vegetables and eggs produced on the premises, we get our meat and fish from local farmers. This means that everything we serve is as fresh as it could possibly be, with the smallest possible carbon footprint attached.
Something for everyone
We aim to provide a fully inclusive dining experience, with something for everyone. Whether you’re popping in for a light bite or would prefer something more substantial, our menus can cater for you.
Vegetarians and vegans can enjoy delicious meals made from the produce of our own kitchen garden. Meat-eaters can dig into a plump beef burger or a juicy plate of ham and egg. Gluten-free options are always available, including mouthwatering homemade cakes. Allergy information is provided, but if you have a specific allergy or intolerance that isn’t mentioned just ask and our team will be happy to tell you about the ingredients used in any dish.
Wine, beer, and more
To give your day a bit of extra sparkle, we offer an extensive drinks menu. As well as teas, coffees and soft drinks, we can provide wine, beer, and cider. Our beers and ciders all come from local breweries and ciderers, many of which are award-winning. Our wines are drawn from further afield - but there is a family connection. The Paringa Wine Estate in Australia, from which many of our best wines have been sourced, is run by the partner of Simon Gudgeon’s sister.
Pre-order a picnic
Sculpture by the Lakes is a stunning place to enjoy a picnic. But there’s no need to lug a heavy picnic hamper around all day. You can pre-order a picnic from the Gallery Café and collect it whenever you’re ready. Our picnic menu is very versatile. We even have a range of special picnic wines, perfect for relaxing with! Give us a call, and we’ll sort out your very own luxury picnic, to enjoy in the peaceful spot of your choosing.
Friday bistro night
Over the winter, the Gallery Café will be open every Friday night for a warm and friendly bistro evening. We’ve got a great bistro menu lined up, with plenty of locally sourced, expertly prepared platters to choose from.
