In 1992, inspired by adventure, a couple of newlyweds sold everything they owned, bought two motorbikes and spent a year journeying across Europe, through the Middle East and across the top of North Africa. Along the way they discovered the power of food as a sort of social lubricant – language and culture was no barrier to the companionship of sharing food. Intrigued and curious they gathered recipes from the folk they met along the way as a way of keeping a record of their delight in discovering new cultures and tastes.
Back in the UK, born out of post travel depression they tried to recapture the essence of their pilgrimage by recreating some of the recipes, on the 28th October 1993 under the motto of World Food Made Great In Britain, they sold their first jars of olives in Bath. Olives Et Al was born.
The Olives Et Al team have been faithfully re-creating those recipes ever since, and have found many more, using traditional methods and the most suitable ingredients from the best suppliers we can find. Our aim, as always, is to deliver a whole new world of experiences and our credo to this day remains the same as the one forged on that original trip – Live More & Eat Very Happily
